Arguably the greatest batsman ever to play for the Mighty Mighty Ducks, Maul was drafted back in season 14 as a finger-spin bowling all rounder. He played his first competitive game, in OD cricket, that same season. With batting becoming his primary skill he made his FC debut in season 16 where he managed a comparatively uninspired 711 runs @29 whilst adding 6 wickets. He didn't make a FC century until season 18 (after getting dropped briefly) and indeed throughout his first six seasons showed a habit of getting and getting out (24 50s vs. 6 100s). After this stuttering start he passed 1000 runs in a season for the first time in season 19 and did so again in 22. His run as the best batsman in the club began in season 25, where he made 1200 runs @50 and continued up until his retirement from the format. During this period, seasons 25 through 30, he passed 1000 runs in every season scoring a combined 7903 runs @57.7, 29 50s and 27 centuries (showing a much improved conversion rate). He is the leading run scorer for the Ducks (with over 15000) and the only Duck to have scored 40 FC tons and is also the only player to make over 100 50+ scores in total. All of this whilst batting at no.4. He reached the 15,000/40 mark in his 199th match. He has the highest average of any player to score over 10,000 runs and is also one of only two players to pass the 200 match milestone. His bowling was more of the part-time partnership breaking, although with the retirement of Fear he acted more like an all rounder. He managed 67 wickets @62, passing 10 wickets in a season twice. His best seasons with the ball were season 26 (10 @29) and 30 (11@40). he has the distinction of taking his best career figures in his final match including 4 wickets in 5 balls in his final over to seal a win.
In OD cricket he was a consistent performer, and as of retirement sits 3rd on the all time run list as well as 3rd on games played. He scored just under 10,000 runs, almost half of which were in Tier 1 and 10 centuries in his career (9 in tier 1). Whilst playing primarily as a batsman he was occasionally used as a front line bowler when conditions suited until the twilight of his career when in an effort to extend the batting lineup he played as a 'proper' all-rounder. In these final two seasons he took a combined 52 wickets, brining his career total to 69. He passed 1000 season OD runs in a season 3 times. Both his batting an bowling averages in Tier 1 competition were better than his career numbers showing how he excelled against the best teams and players. He was the 3rd batsman to hit 50+ OD 6s and the 2nd to pass 9000 OD runs. Whilst never winning a Tier 1 title as a first-team player, he did play a match in the first ever Tier 1 winning OD season where he took 3 wickets on a spinning pitch, in the process earning himself a much deserved Tier 1 winners medal.
A sublime fielder, in OD and FC cricket combined he took over 300 catches and over 50 run outs. These numbers place him joint best non-wicket keeper for catches taken in OD cricket (top in all non-keeper fielder dismissals) and second best non-keeper for fielder dismissals in FC cricket.
A Duck Legend, he leaves a big hole at the top of the order, and provides a template for all hard-working batsmen. He won 6 league awards (all youth OD) and 32 MoM awards (19 in OD).
Note: as of 31/7/2018 Maul is currently in the top 10 all time run-scorers in official FC leagues.
